I went to have my tooth removed yesterday. The dental surgeon tried to pull it in the usual way but the curved roots made that impossible, and after several attempts he had to change methods.
He had to drill it into pieces and remove it bit by bit, also cutting the roof of my mouth and my gums to get to the curved roots.
Then I had to have it x rayed again as one of the roots that showed up on the initial x rays was 'missing'.
It's still missing, and must now be somewhere further inside my sinus cavity.
The hole to my sinus cavity has been sealed, and my mouth stitched.
I have been referred to ENT at the local hospital, and have been told I will probably need a CT scan to locate the root. I will need to be anaesthesised, and have a camera put up my nose into my sinus cavity whereupon the root of my tooth will be removed.
In the meantime it's possible that I will get recurrent sinus infections.
I have antibiotics, a mouth full of stitches, and a face that looks, and feels, like I've done a few rounds with Tyson Fury.
When I got home my daughter said my eyes looked like I had been traumatised, and she's right; I had. Now, they look like they're going black.
It was brutal.
I had a rough night, feeling like I was going to vomit, and in considerable pain, but things seemed to have improved slightly this morning.
Since then I've had a nosebleed and my face has swollen again, having gone down a bit overnight.
And to think, just 5 weeks ago I went to the dentist for a check up and said I had no problems.
Happy 2025 to me.
Oh blimey Scarlet, not a good end to the year! How horrible for you, a dentist visit is traumatic enough without all that. I can only hope the root is found and removed quickly and without any further trauma for you. I would say things can only get better - let's hope that's the case. I hope you have a settled night, bless you. Sooze xx
ReplyDeleteOh how painful and unpleasant. I do hope it can be sorted quickly and that you have a better night tonight. Kay
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. Brutal is the word for it. I hope it improves and that was the worst of it.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to you x
ReplyDeleteGood grief, sounds horrendous. I hope you heal well and that the wandering root is found and removed pronto. Were you affected by the flooding?
ReplyDeleteHell fire Scarlet what a crappy start to the New year, well at least it's all uphill from now m'dear.
ReplyDeleteOh that's dreadful, and to think there's more to come! I hope you have a better night's sleep and an easing of the pain tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteScarlet, I’m so sorry you had such an horrendous experience at the dentist. I hope the pain, swelling and bruising wear off soon. Also sorry you have the added worry/dread of the further treatment. May this be the end of rotten luck for you for 2025, you’ve had some real challenges to deal with over the years.
ReplyDeleteLong time reader/lurker here, just worked out how to comment. Let’s see if it works. Maggie
Thanks everyone. I'm sorry I don't have the energy to reply individually as I think the trauma has sparked an ME/CFS crash. I've spent most of the time in bed since Monday. My legs are still wobbly. My face is now yellow, blue and purple and my lips are bruised. I'm still swollen and my mouth still feels like it does when it's been numbed for a filling, making eating and drinking difficult. I'm still taking painkillers but the gaps between doses is getting bigger. I received my appointment to see the consultant... it's for the end of July, so I just have to hope that I'm one of the lucky ones and nothing goes drastically wrong due to the tooth root being in my sinus cavity. I've read as much as I can about it and know the signs of sepsis and septic thrombosis. Forewarned is forearmed, particularly these days with our broken NHS.
