April 2011 to 31st March 2026
I've been writing but not posting, using it as a diary of sorts. I may publish those posts at some point, but here's a bulletpoint update...
- I had my surgery last Thursday
- I had a vertigo attack once back on the ward, which the nurse ignored/ didn't understand and insisted I should eat/ drink/ vomit/ sit up in order to feel better
- It had been caused by lying flat during surgery/ having my head moved into position during surgery
- She finally got the charge nurse and I got cyclizine and some sleep and was able to go home at 7pm rather than having to stay in
- My husband left his job on the day of my surgery
- On Sunday evening the stitches burst/ wound broke down, my sinus was exposed and air/ blood was gurgling/ whooshing through it
- The Max Fax duty doctor fobbed me off
- I rang back on Monday and after 3 calls an arrangement to see me was made
- I had 4 stitches to close a 5mm hole. The doctor who did the repair had been present during my surgery and said the team thought this may happen due to having to stretch the flap a long way to cover the 5p sized hole that had failed to close under a layer of skin after the dental surgery 16 months ago
- I may have to have further surgery
- I have slept...a lot
- I have read...a lot
- I have watched Line of Duty... a lot
- I have spent the vast majority of my time in bed as this has knocked me for six
- I have, in the last 7 days, lost 10 pounds in weight
- I look like I've aged 10 years
- I have no appetite, am limited in what I can actually eat, and am struggling, as seeing a smaller number on the scales is triggering
- Our little one has a place at the school Mummy and Daddy wanted. We are all delighted
- Our beautiful grandkitty, Bold, died on 31st March. He stole my heart from the first time we met him to look after him. My daughter and son in law are heart broken.
- After being told by the NHS that I had clear features of basal cell cancer on the end of my nose, I saw an actual dermatology expert privately and was told that I do not. Relieved doesn't cover it.

You have really been through the mill, just try and hold onto any small positives to keep you going. My best wishes x
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan. It's definitely been a tough few weeks.
DeleteGood to hear from you, I was only thinking about you a couple of days ago but life intervened before I could email. Good news about the possible cancer, not so much about the wound breaking down. Rest and recover as much as you can. Great about little one's school.
ReplyDeleteSooze xx
Thanks Sooze, and for taking the time to comment when I see you have further trials of your own. I'm just waiting for a call back from the surgical team as it seems it could be breaking down again. My appointment is on Monday but I'm worried it will become infected before then as I've finished the antibiotics. I hope you have a lovely time with your sister xx
DeleteI'm pleased to hear you've come out the other side, not without a struggle from the sounds of it. It sounds absolutely awful! I'm sorry to hear about Bold. I remember him from your previous blog - The Animals of Farthing Wood springs to mind - my kids used to love it! Hopefully you'll start to feel a bit better ASAP 🤞.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think there's a small hole again so I'm awaiting a call back from the surgical team.
DeleteYes, he was named after the Farthing Wood fox as K was a huge fan. When they went to choose a kitten he was bold enough to approach them whilst his siblings shied away. They were smitten, and his name was chosen. They're devastated and have been spending time at the caravan as they can't bear being in the house without him.
♥️
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteScarlett...reach out any time you just need to release anything on your mind. I'm so sorry you've had the run around again, but as we last talked, so relieved for you as well. Sweet Bold was so loved by you all.
ReplyDeleteThanks SAM, and for the email I woke up to. Things don't seem brilliant this morning and I'm waiting for a call from the hospital. I think there's a small hole and am concerned about infection before I see them on Monday so need advice and possibly a prescription for more antibiotics.
