Make do and mend
UK Government 1939-1945
My daughter bought this 'busy book' very cheaply at a carboot sale last year because a lot of pieces were missing. It was mostly the shapes... there was only a semi circle left.
Our little one loves shapes, numbers, letters and colours. Their love of shapes and numbers fills me with joy, as my daughters struggled with 'maths', particularly the younger one. Having completed my teacher training I suspect she has dyscalculia.
In the spirit of make do and mend, today I used scraps of felt, and some self adhesive velcro, to make the shapes for them. My felt wasn't as thick as the original so I cut out two and blanket stitched them together. I just have some of the numbers to finish and then I can return it to them.
Yet again, my ability to sew has proved useful.

That looks fantastic! So nice to be able to repair and then reuse something that might have been thrown away! Kay x
ReplyDeleteThank you. It didn't take long to make them, I enjoyed doing it, and they were happy with it, so it was a big win.
DeleteIt's adorable and as a firmer toddler/ preschool teacher and of course mom, loved texture to go with learning shapes and colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks SAM. They spot shapes wherever we go, so were thrilled that I'd made them for the book!
DeleteWhat a great idea! Our grandchild has both dyslexia and dyscalculia - thank goodness for early diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan. My elder daughter is dyslexic, autistic and has ADHD... all diagnosed as an adult.
