On the left, an apple from one of our trees at the allotment. On the right, a shop bought Granny Smith.
I won't need to buy apples for a long time. I have five eating varieties and one cooking variety of tree at the allotment. I also have 2 varieties of pears.
All the trees are laden.
I'm hoping for some dry days this week so I can go and do some more picking.
The freezer is filling nicely, and I'm going to make a crumble this afternoon.

Oh, I was thinking a crisp or crumble would be delicious this week. I need to clean out my refrigerator we'll before shopping. I'd like to make a couple and freeze one for an easy grab. Our little apple trees took a brutal hit in a storm, broken branches from the weight of too many apples, but some will make it to picking at the end of the month.
ReplyDeleteWe've eaten one crumble and I've just made another... the apples are so huge that it only took 2 to make a 4 portion crumble.I picked a lot of apples and pears at the allotment last night so have those to deal with. What a shame about your tree. We lost a branch off one of ours this year due to the weight as I didn't get round to removing any.
